The pins are welded where they are pressed into the throws to keep the crank from twisting. Makes them pretty bullet proof up to about 180 hp. After that you need to go straight cut gears on the crank & clutch hub to keep the helical gear from trying to shove the clutch hub into the cases. Ray.Comment

Yep, get the idea, just don't buy it...Yes, really.
Nobody NEEDS 140 hp in a street driven motorcycle, but they may WANT it, which is a completely different matter. And NO, a 250 is not adequate for general use if that included extended freeway and two up riding.
I'm not qualified to state with conviction all that would be needed to achieve that kind of HP, but I do know you would need a welded crank, HD clutch hub, big carbs, performance cams, and most likely big displacement and a worked head. In addition, an oil cooler should be added, and of course, a good exhaust system too.
With all that HP you would likely want a rear wheel/tire with a little more meat than the stock 130 so now you are into a wheel conversion project as well. Of course, now that brings up the inadequate suspension matter... Get the idea? Big project, and expensive.Comment

My buddy built the motor I have. He spent bunches. I bought it 10 cents on the dollar. Rode it for 3 years on the street. Had a blast. Then took it out of the original frame and put it in a race frame. Now its even more fun. Thats what I consider natural progression. I didn't need the power, but it eventually ended up in the right place. And Ray is right. Don't need more than 1 bike. Thats why I have 4. Two GS's a HD and a Yamaha YZ250.

Yup just one bike, but hey I can only ride one at time eh?
Though believe me I would love to have the GS1100E big brother to my 750E. I don't really care to work on anyone else's bike any more, I find that a bit more frustrating then I care for. And yeah Blake's Lotta Burger is still around with their green chile (with an e please not an i)cheese burgers is still yummie. Though being in chile central here, I do my own green chile burgers and such. Try some green chile grilled chicken, you'll slap your grandma it's so good lol.

After I rescued my GS my buddy in Denver has gone a bit GS crazy buying three 750 models and a 1000 in various levels of condition. Hard to have only one...
Come on, you sound like my Mom, GF, ex-wife, wife and non-cycle friends; can only ride one at a time? Blah.
