Seeing Behind You

I have been considering buying the new Reevu modular helmet. I tried there full face at last years Motorcycle show. But at $500 and $50 for replacement face shields, I find the price a bit steep. I was also not 100% sure if I liked the image.
So after surfing around google I found this solution that a few riders have used for $50.
Has anyone tried this ? And if so what is your review ?

Hmm not sure why I would need one on a bike, maybe a trike or a dresser. Don't know. Sure could have used them on our combines.

I'm thinking combined with mirrors. All I can see is the lanes beside me, nothing behind. A couple of times the vehicle behind me has pulled out to pass just as I am making a lane change. And only the last shoulder check has saved me.

Don't know, never had any real problem seeing behind me. At least you can turn your head, me I have about 10-(on a good day) 15 degrees of head movement.

I have a rule. Always check twice before changing lane.

It's kinda like a pre-check and the go for it check.

That's what I do as well. But I still don't have anywhere the visibility I have in a car. Plus my jacket with armored shoulders limit my shoulder check. A little better if I'm not wearing it but still.... I think I'll give it a go. Looks like a simple mod, and not expensive.

Personally, I'd rather not have the visual distraction in front of me, especially at night if that screen has any brightness to it...

Having a rice rocket pull out behind you with improper Xenon HID's on a dark night would suck.

Do the Reevu's have an auto-darken feature or anything?

Hey Garth I feel your pain. My 80 gs has awesome mirrors but my new gixxer has brutal mirrors! I always feel a little nervous on it compared to my gs. I like to be able to look in a mirror all the time to know exactly whats going on behind me. And constantly turning around to look over my shoulder takes my eyes off the road where they need to be.

Yes the Reevu's do. And supposedly so does this camera. Here is a video of one on a 250 ninja.

Just get better mirrors (i.e. ones that stick out enough to see BEHIND you and don't vibrate). My stock mirrors were useless, I temporarily replaced them with my dirt bike mirrors till I scooped a pair of honda mirrors off ebay- big improvement for ten bucks!

Okay just watched the video on the rear view camera. I don't like the distraction at all from the screen. As it is, we have to keep our heads ( well y'all do, me that is a nearly impossible now days) moving trying to watch out for cagers, deer, and assorted other things that make riding so much fun. I see this thing making some riders lazy and others just plain mesmerized with this rear view contraption. My gf's son was looking at my bike the other day and commented about how wide my mirrors were and he would ditch those for something shorter. He asked me why I kept them, told him because I can see behind me. I'm sorry, though I think some of these electronic do dads are just making people too lazy for their own good.

It's not an option I really wanted to do. I have nice long mirrors on the 750 which work just fine. But on the 1100 they are mounted on the fairing and don't leave me many choices. However I just had a look at the 1100 and I don't see a place I could mount the screen anyway. So I'm back to the Reevu helmet option.
