    170 mph 78 GS1000 ?

I just aquired this OEM rusty gauge cluster that was said to be off a 1978 gs1000e.

This is the first time I have seen factory gauges go to 170 mph. My 78 has 140 mph gauges.

Anybody know anything about what bike it may have really come off of?

Whatever it is those bottom numbers were hand painted on. Look at the spacing and the size of them

Good point, Cowboy, and the kph scale would also have continued if it were original.

WOW. You know you guys are right.

I guess I need to start wearing my cheater glasses all the time. I just went out to the shop and loooked closely and it does look like they added the extra numbers. It doesnt look like paint though, stickers of some sort.

Now the obvious question...do you think someone had one of these old bikes that could go that fast?

The obvious answer is: No, they just wanted to be able to post their Craigslist ad with "Goes 170 mph."

there used to be a guy on here who made gauge faces. they were perfect and you could have almost anything you wanted on them. here is the set he made for me, lots of others had them made to with varying designs and "extras".

Still all in all I think it would be pretty cool to have a speedo that read 170.

What was it in the movie "Spinal Tap" about the amp that goes to 11 on the volume scale?
