Also, telling someone they can get plenty of power from an 1100 head is SAVING them the cost of looking for & buying an 1150 head. Lastly, Mark, isn't that your name, for the power level he is asking about, he doesn't need to use an 1150 head so it costs him less. Ray.
Ok I will admit you didn't brag about it but you did give the impression that that was a good build to go 8.20's
I still disagree with you on the 1150 head. You can find 1150 heads for $400 and then sell the stock 1100 head for $200 and you only have $200 into an 1150 head the he could just put it on stock if he likes or get a nice clean up on it or take it to a higher level but it is a better platform to start with and you can take the valve cover off and not have to buy a new gasket every time you take it off

Who is Mark? My name is J.D.

Well, if that's the case JD, I will sell you EVERY 1100 head I have for 200 each. I havent seen one sell for more than 125 in 2 years, and I watch for them all the time. You build tjem your way & I will build them mine. I have no failures & no complaints about how my engines run. Good luck with yours. Oh, and I learn new stuff every day. I just know how to make 1100 heads work well enough that 1150 heads arent a requirement. Ray.

Use the 1150 motor Tom, it already has a welded crank. Ray.

Either motor will run high 9's with a stock motor with a good street ported head no epoxy just a good clean up and a good set of carbs and a good chassis set up an air shifter is very helpful also
Now when I say stock motor you still have to do the bottom end weld the crank and clutch basket under cut tranny.
I am kinda partial towards the 1150 motors.

              my .02 worth...
i love the 1150 engines and in the beginning of my hi perf journey i had no money.
i would get the most out of the stock head and pistons and just add drop in's and RS mik carbs.
all my motors in the early days never had the head removed(dead stock).
pre internet and all this BS talk where everyone is an expert with a foot long sausage...
              heavy 1150 street bike...no airshifter..16t front/stock rear sprocket..10.40's
3" over arm and 14t front sprocket...10.30 flat.
same engine in a longer a little lighter foot shift 82 chassis..9.90's
same engine in a small tire drag chassis with a heavy rider...950's

if a person spends more time than money on what you have to work with(given it's a good platform) and buy's used parts when available then a person can actually learn a lot about carbs/cam timing/gearing/chassis set up and so on.
ok my dlck is kinda small for this conversation so i'll let all the big boys carry on
