OK all you drag racers I'm down to 6.61

This bike is in the 6's now and my best run is,
    60 Ft 1.52
    330 Ft 4.24
    1/8 Et 6.61
    MPH 102.04

How much nitrous do you think it will take to break into the 5's.

I'm thinking 25 to 50 HP shot in 2nd gear and on.

    Can you say bottle fed

To gain that much, I think you will need to spray 75 to 100 hp. Do you use a nitrous controller? I also think you will have to start spraying about the 60 ft mark or so. How big is your motor. I bet there is more in your bike that will come about with seat time. My opinion. What gear are you running, I'm curious.

It's a 1166 13-1 with a 14T front and 42R. As is I thinking I can get it to 6.50 with more practice since I installed the bars the other day.

Jake you start breaking parts around the time you go into the 5`s. I noticed you are running a stock output with no bearing support. That is a weak point. I don`t want you to think I am all doom and gloom. I have just seen a lot of torn up stuff. Again with the slider and a NOS controller you probably could run 5.70`s with the proper suspension setup. To prove how much proper suspension setup means ....I once took my mild street 1150 engine out of my street bike and did this. I put a 1-2-3 auto in it...everything else stayed as it was in the street bike. It was a 1325cc with 10 to 1`s. I had a 1mm over head on it with 370 lift cams,36mm flatsides, ported head,of course the usual crank welding etc. With a 140 pound rider it would run consistent 5.20`s without nitrous. I put this engine in a 10 inch car tire kosman chassis (74 inch)( also VERY light) that I was no longer using. It cut 1.17 60`s. It didn`t run a whole lot of mph but the ET was great. This same bike was much less impressive in the quarter. It couldn`t pull the chassis or tire on the big end. A chassis goes a long way in drag racing.

Oh no not doom and gloom. I like you're feedback Chris. Sounds like you are a heavy hitter at the track. My problem is I've have'nt picked the next direction I want to go with the bike yet, but I'm thinking i need too real soon.

Jake, Question 4u...A 4.2 330 is heading for a 6.2 or 3 1/8. is you bike pulling hard thru the 1/8? It seems you are losing something. I just pulled out old time slips and looked em over. Just tryin to help ya out.

Looking for the fives are we? Half a second is a lot to remove. But your going in the right direction. I have no clue what to tell you on the N2O. Every setup is different. I would recommend you add as much safty into it as possible. Fuel pressure switch, WOT switch, arm switch, etc. Then buy a two-stage controller. Some of the new units are very small, programmable and easy to setup.

My only other advice is to take small steps as you spray and make sure you purge the lines when your done.

I did go to the track this weekend, but as a spectator. I saw an old HD that ran the 1/8 in 6.68. Very close to you. I can't remember his speed at the 1/8 but I think his trap speed was around 120. Nice looking bike, lowered, etc. Saw a Busa running close to 170 MPH trap speeds with no bars and street tire. For this track, it was impressive.

Well i have'nt dialed in my G4 cams yet and i'm running 38mm cv carbs, that might have something to do with it. The bike runs great with VP 103 and I'm going to try 93 octan and retard the timing so it won't ping if at all.

I'm the only dude is this town running a GS so everything is trial and error.

I'm shifting into 4 gear just before the line maybe 50 to 75 feet at around 9200rpm. Maybe i should go back to a 15 front and 45 or 48 rear?

Looking at my last five slips it's take me 2.38 to 2.46 seconds to cover that last 330 feet.

I like the 15t front...a bigger gear on the back will get you moving quicker, but may require an extra shift..You have to feel your bike pulling thru the whole run..Kind of relate your gearing to riding a bicycle..Hard to pedal?? Pedal like a mad man and go no where? Motor needs something to pull on. Only mess with one thing at a time...Keep notes on each run and save your time slips..This info will help in the future as you build a "data" base on your performances..You will get there..This might sound silly, but you can scrub lotsa time by just practicing..I learned that by a good friend who has won many races and holds s few records too...racing no bar street bikes. Good Luck..have fun!

Jake GS is right. A larger rear sprocket does work better. If you are going into 4th as you say your gearing is close. You probably could gear down a touch more for the 1/8 mile but I bet you are close already for the quarter. When you go through that trap in the quarter you want that sucker almost on the rev limiter. I really enjoy reading about your racing. Keep us posted. Main thing is have FUN!
