Performance difference between Yoshimura and Vance and Hines?

I'm slowly fettling out my 1150, which has the really close-fitting full Yosh exhaust. I don't love the small muffler on this system, though I've heard it is about as good as any for performance. I like the look of the 4-1 Vance and Hines with the megaphone, but am not sure whether it works as well as what I have. The 1150 will become a 1230 over the winter, with RS36 carbs, some headwork, degreed cams, so I want the exhaust to perform well and look good.

Thoughts? Experience with the two?

The v&h is under sized at the collector and the baffle. I bought a new system a couple months ago and it's still in the box. I'm sure it's nice and quiet but I don't think I'll be using it.

Which yoshi is it? Large down pipe race version (goes right under the belly) or street version that deflects say from the center of the of oil pan.

It's the race version. I've heard it is a good performance piece. Could I mount a megaphone on it?

I would look for a vintage can for a vintage yoshi but it would not be a megaphone. Worst case get one of the older oval rs3 yoshi cans.

i don't have the number at hand but the down tubes on the race version are the largest I have measured. The street version is pretty similar to the v&h. The newer yoshi 4:2:1 I have the down tubes are just slightly smaller but larger than all the other pipes.

The can on my 4:2:1 was a nos item off of a honda 550. There is an internal can in the baffle and I wrap with stainless steel wool. I have never dynoed my bike but I have never felt that the exhaust was holding back the 1166.

Back years ago there was only one pipe that performed better than Yosh, I believe it was Akropovic for a lot more money. It was maybe 1 or 2 hp better.

There is a guy in California, Chris Redpath at MotoGPWerks (http://www.motogpwerks.com/) who can bend and weld up a stainless steel version of a Yosh pipe. He can build what you want for a reasonable price. Almost bought one from him this month but decided to keep my Jardine exhaust another year and having it ceramic coated black now.
Like not having to remove the center stand and not worrying about trying to max out the performance on my stock 1980 GS1000G.
