GsXR1100 question

Hey all. There's an opportunity to grab an 88' GSXR1100 that's sat out side for a number of years. I've never followed much of the GSXR mod stuff so I'm not exactly sure what will fit where sort of thing. I would be wanting to modify my 78' 1000 if the suspension parts would fit. Can someone chime in and let me know for sure that the front suspension parts and what other parts would be good to put on my 78' 1000. Or let me know if it would not be worth the hassle. If you look at my signature, you will see a 88 GSXR 1100 suspension upgrade (using a bandit swinger) on the GS1100ED. In my opinion this is the most desirable of (vintage) upgrades short of starting to mix front end (Bandit forks with 18" wheels) parts. The 18" wheels retain most of your ground clearance and the chain clearance with a 4 1/2" 170/60-18 is much better than with a 180/55-17.

The wheels are pretty scarce (88 1100 GSXR; 1 year only) and the other parts (forks,brakes,rotors) are pretty hard to come by as they only came on 3 1100 models, and the 87-88 are the only ones with the 17mm front axle. If you have the time, put an 17" suspension on the 88 GSXR and the 18" suspension on the 1000.

Yes I read thru your thread, loads of good info. I wan't sure if there was a huge difference with the steering stems on the 78' 1000's compared to the 1100EDs. It sounds like it's at least worth grabbing the parts for future monkey wrenching.

It's definitely worth the effort.
Here's mine with the 18" wheels but with GSXR 1100 K (1989) suspension.

Just picked up a 78 1000, the 92 gsxr front end was a direct bolt on. *aside from the steering stop* which has to be modified.

Like what shape are the emulsion tubes in? Are they worn out?

Yes, the spacing is the same. You will just need to make sure they are in good shape & then tune them to your engine.

Just stick the whole damn engine in there Trev. You'll have a gawd damned rocket ship. Mine is a de-tuned version of the same engine and year and it scares the crap out of me.....
