    1980 gs 850. which jets if adding 4:1 v & h exhaust & k & n pods ?

    1980 gs 850 gl. Adding V & H 4:1 and K & N pod filters.which jets ?.
    And do k & n pods work better than a stock airbox k & n filter ?. Wonderin about suckin in rain in wost case situation.

    I have essentially same bike and same set up. http://www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDet...50&item=DJ3306 Get that and install the largest jets that are in the kit. You need the new needles and other bits in that kit if you want to have a prayer of your bike running right with pods and a pipe. http://www.pingelonline.com/carburet...rs-34mm-up.asp Get those pods if you want same quality as K&N for much less ($60 vs $150 for the K&N's). I had to scuff it down some with a scotch brite and hit it with some high temp black as it appears he's had them on the shelf awhile. As far as the pods sucking rain, I've ridden in some bad weather (nor-easters) and have gotten caught in torrential downpours. Never had a problem on any of my pod equipped bikes.

      My 80 850L runs pods and V/H, my carb set up is, stock pilots and 122.5 main jets, that is with adjusted valves. My pilot needles vary from 1-1 1/2 turns out from light seat.

        Those pods are different animals then the K&N
        I've used those on the smaller 450s and 650s and I did not have to shim the needle at all. Upped the main jet one size (2.5) and richened the mixture screws a tad.
        With the K&N pods I'd get a Dynojet kit or shim the needle with two to three washers (radio shack small assorted washers) and up the main to 125-130 but start rich.
