    Rear Sprocket--- Steel or Aluminum

OK Drag racers which is better steel or aluminum. Was going to buy a 45T sprocket from Schnitz racing but all they sell are aluminum ones.

I always used aluminium rear sprocket. Never saw much signs of wear, but there again probably only did about 100 miles a year!
An aluminium sprocket is lighter, and also cheaper!

Aluminum will give you better acceleration (which you are after... ) and should last a long time on a drag bike. The rear sprocket doesn't see the wear that the front does (3x the teeth = 1/3 the wear) and looks much cooler to boot. 8) From what I have seen, a quality aftermarket aluminum rear sprocket will last about as long as a steel front and a quality O-ring chain, which makes it nice to change out the whole set together when they wear out.

For once we may all agree on a subject? 7075-T6 aluminum. No O ringed 630 chain.

              Thanks Guys

I thought all the rear sprockets were steel and that aluminum ones were for off road. Sence now I know they can withstand dragracing abuse I'll be buying one. Going to start with a 45T for a 3.21 ratio and should have it on in a few weeks.

If you hunt around the dbike.com classifieds you will find them there...I got most of mine a friend who owns ECS Dyno.
