2v 1000 budget cams??

      We're lucky up north, we got the vm29ss flatslides that came on the 85-87 gsxr750, their pretty much a direct bolt on to later model 8v gs's with cv carbs bigger intake boots, I got 2 sets for less than $200 can. here's what they look like, their actually 29's not 33's

      and you can use these carbs too as parts for the vm29ss, to get rid of the accelerator pump and have quick access float bowl main jet changes as well as the 33mm face plates



      for gaskets, use ones from a suzuki DR 350 with the TM33 pumper

            If you want some BST33's & K&N dual oval lunchbox filters, I have no use for these now since I have discovered Kawasaki VM28's and Mikuni VM29 smooth bores will be a direct fit to the GS650 head with GS400 intake spacers...

            They are off a Katana 600, & I think the needles may need some tuning on an 1100 but may be good on a 1000 as they come off of a higher revving 600.

            I am out of town but will be back Monday and can snap some photos. They were 91-96/7/8-ish 600 Katana carbs. 88/89 had bst31 (or 89/90) then bst33 until the late 90's then swapped to a different model. Let me know if these interest you. PM/email me if interested. Good luck either way you go.

            FYI those "VM29SS" are not VM's but rather the dirt bike carbs mentioned with a nostalgic name. They are larger bore but have a throat restrictor bolted on to the front, and people bore them out to full size typically.
            They do typically suffer from slide wear or body wear in slide area if I recall correctly, & some told me that most used examples are generally pretty worn and the parts are not available to take up the slop. They are great if you find a good set but are very hard to find in the US. Canada only.

              Ill definitely be interested, will pm you on that tomorrow. Just a question though. What carb boots would i need to run and is the spacing going to be right for the 1000 with cv carb boots?

                I have the whole 1100 D port motor in one of my 1000Gs. Its noticeably stronger than the others. I didn't know until I had to change the starter clutch after 5 or 6 rears of ownership. Bigger diameter crank and different starter clutch.

                  It's not which stock cams you use - it's where you degree them.
                  Put stock GS1000 cams on 107/109 lobe centers and be surprised...

                  On stock timings there's very little difference 750 to 1000 cams, just dial in the stock 1000 cams and save the money.

                      Varies a bit but usually around 110/110 - in the 1000.

                          Would one use this timing for an 1000 or a 1100? is there a difference?

                            I'd certainly try it on the 1100G, I have in the past used 106/108 on an 1100G with OE CV carbs with great results, bigger motor can carry more overlap.

                            Advance inlet, retard exhaust to close up lobe centers.
