      Well, apparently the bike now does 95mph at 7k rpm in 5th gear.
      Had a harley guy I met on sunday run around the 495 beltway with me so I could find out. Fun fun fun...

          7000 RPM in 5th gear on my GS850GLZ. I think that's about 140 MPH.
          I just noticed this post from a couple of weeks ago. The 850 won't do 140 unless you have made some radical, radical changes to the transmission gearing. Unlike the chain drive bikes which can change sprockets, The shaft drive machines are locked into ther rpm-to-mph ratio. The 850 runs a true 60 mph at 4460 rpm. That is an almost perfect (4500 being perfect) 3 to 4 factor to relate the two. Divide the rpm by three and multiply the result by 4 (and mark off a couple of decimal places) to get your speed. ex: 6000 rpm divided by 3 = 2000; 2000 x 4 = 8000 or 80 miles per hour.

          7000 rpm would calc out to a hair under 95 mph. The highest measured speed from any of the magazine roadtests when they were new machines was 124 mph. All of the quarter mile times were in the high twelves.

            Nah, it was the fastest speed I could go. The fuel bowls are apparently almost totally drained of incoming fuel at that point. There is either a restriction at the in-line fuel filter or the floats need to be raised or something. I know this bike has more to give but at 95 mph it starts to suck the bowls dry, I can hear the carbs sucking when I reach that point. The sound of the pods changes to kinda like when you suck on a straw to get the last bits of soda out of a cup. :?

              I was driving up Rt 90 last weekend and decided to see what she could do 8) after a nice speed of 75mph I twisted it, legs back, chin on the gas cap and my *%lls up my $SS I hit 128mph 8O 8O 8) . Then after that I got out of bed and brushed my teeth

                "When we were young and dumb" Yeah I did it. GS1100EZ. Barely broke in. Long stretch of country road. Roll that throttle back and hang on. Tried that once 20 years later and the engine wanted to but the frame and suspension said forget it. Major speed wobbles !

                      167mph??? We had over 250hp and ran a 9.0 for those mph's..10.80's with a good 60 ft' maybe 125 mph...Was your 167mph on your 10.80 pass?

                        no , my 1/4 mile speed was 132mph, 167mph was on road top gear approx. 10000rpm. Would go faster with different gearing.

                              I had my 450 up to 105 to 110 but I think the speedo was a big liar (that was pretty fast when compared to the moped I just came off)

                                My (stock) -81 GS450 will do 100mph with a little persuasion, in 4th gear 8)
