I finally got my GS1000G back together after replacing the cam dog seal in the bottom half. While out of the frame, I went ahead and replaced all gaskets and seals for the entire engine. I did not remove the buckets on the springs and do anything with the valve springs, I only checked the shims and adjusted them to the right size. The timing is correct, I check it 3 times and did several rotations before putting the cover back on.
Now that everything is back together I am attempting to start the bike, it turns and turns never to fire. I checked the plugs I have spark and I'm spraying starter fluid into the carbs with no airbox. I'm just trying to get it to fire. I'm thinking back to everything I did to this motor, I feel like I put everything back together correctly with help from the manual.
Am I forgetting something? When I spray starter fluid into the carbs, I hear it hissing like it trying to spark. Maybe I've done something and it doesn't have compression?
Looking for answers for a newbie with his first engine rebuild. It's probably something simple.....
Thanks a million.
