Not sure about your "minimum amount of work" comment. I massaged the valve cover for about 6 hours at a minimum.
My comment was intended to convey that you're being modest; you write "The proper fix would be... but that's for later" and then the photos show an engine that could've rolled off the factory floor a few days ago Like Nessism elaborated, these cases look damn fine. "Blasting" as in vapour/ice/bead/whathaveyou blasted.

The only blasting was a few beers and elbow grease and Thank you for your comment about being modest. I thought that I was the only one to see the fruits of my labor. I Love this stuff

Took a little more time than I thought but it ended well.

Had to time the cams Twice. My bad. Fixed before valve cover installed.

Just a close up of what is done. Thanks to member Burque73 for the perfect set of carburetors!

It took a few beers and tears and "I Too" hope for minimal leaks. I believe that the condition of the two mating surfaces has a lot to do with Cheap gaskets working or not. And I spent a bunch of time on preparing the surfaces.

Thank you Big Block. The spokes are a little corroded and the rims have some rust spot issues so I believe I will be putting the mag wheels from my donor GS750 on when it arrives. I've tried the ebay spokes for my Honda XL 350 and they didn't work "Twice". I could just put some Toxic Green spoke covers over the corroded spokes....Not.

My donor was picked up about 265 miles away "one way" and I was happy to get it. 1979 GS750L that someone jacked the wiring a very long time ago and no one could get it to run, Thank Goodness. I needed the center stand/swingarm/ dual disc front end and wheels and ended up with all that and a great engine that ran well, after a couple of tweaks.

I decided to start the full resto tonight and this is what I ended up with after about 4 hours. Much more to come.
