Guest repliedHahaha not quite... rode to work Thursday but had a lunch function so no lunch time ride, and yesterday was the start of my week and a bit leave but I only got a short ride up to check the PO Box.
I'm hoping to get out for a good ride after Christmas though as there's some roads around here I haven't been on for 10 years that have my name all over them
Oh, and as for knee pad progress... been getting into the Christmas spirit in the evening so probably not a good idea to be playing with sharp objects...

Guest repliedWell nothing actually accomplished as such tonight, but I did have a fiddle around with the carving tools to try to work out the best way of carving the design out of the neoprene.
It's not going to be simple but I already knew that much...
Here's the shaped tools I have:

And the flat tools:

Grabbed a bit of left over neoprene from cutting the pads out:

A couple of runs with the V gouge:

Don't forget that even though they're essentially cheap chinese/taiwanese junk, the gouges and blades are very sharp! This is the result of the slightest brush...

And this is after trying all the various different shapes and sizes. Still really none the wiser for a final plan of carving but it looks like just the V gouge will be all I'll need.

Guest repliedI hadn't... but I have now
They seem to be a similar price to the Acewells but the Acewells are ADR approved meaning it's legal for me to run them.
I missed this one today which besides being a bit cheaper will probably suit the GS a little better too:
I'm sure there are other alternatives out there as well but I haven't looked much yet, that'll be a while away...Leave a comment:

Guest repliedI think I may have found what my wife should get me for our anniversary next year too (that's the next "special" day for gift giving)...
Plus...
While I'm not that keen on digital speedos, one of these will allow me to compensate for the larger front tyre quite easily...Leave a comment:

Guest repliedNo Problem....hope it works out for you....my early Christmas gift to you....
you might not even need E-bay, just go to a graphics place they might have sheets of it, or scraps......or find one on a car/truck,,,,well one that has been abandoned of course...and the company is out of business....

Guest repliedHahahaha cheers Dale... speaking of not nice
Aaaah now you're thinking! The magnetic tank bank sticks nice and I know they make magnetised signs for the sides of cars, so that should definitely be an option!Just a thought, perhaps a magnetic sheet, glued to the pad, and then stuck to the tank might work for you ? you could remove it when needed, there is no gap between the magnet and the tank, so no dirt, and being such a large surface it might hold it in place well enough ?
just thinking out loud...
Thank you kindly sir, could be onto something there!
+1
