you're a godsend bill. will do the sums on the lower four ratios tonight and i really appreciate your help on this one matey. i have a little clutch slippage when she's cold or when it gets on the came in the lower cogs but not enough to worry me too much yet. it's a known entity so while i won't be nursing her as its not drastic, i at least can account for it and ride accordingly.

not "miss" charlie, more "missing". anna and i are at the midpoint of our south leg of my holiday. i rode from mackay to brisbane on friday which is about 1050 kilometres. drove beautifully all the way averaging about 6 litres to the 100km and with the nailed to the road stability i've always known that she would posess. late tomorrow i venture probably halfway again and she should be good.

only issue to report is the speedo drive has shed it's teeth just as i was at the end of the run into my friends suburb. was dark by then and i had the gps suctioncupped to the tach, so i was fine anyway. going to try chase another down tomorrow when the shops are open. gps signalled that the speedo is also overreading wildly. at just shy of 120 on the clock actual ground speed is 105. yet the odometer and trip meter seem to be near dead on accurate. good for mileage calculations, and even better for avoiding speeding tickets.

having a nice lazy sunday today and am almost sober from last eve's festivities. all in good prep to resume tonight.

yet anna just continued to muscle on through the whole trip unflustered.

yep charl, but am not sure why. the bevel case is vented by a fitting and a short tube and there's no other way it can have non deliberately gotten in there.

have done a little pricing on the bearings and though not cheap they don't appear too dear to make it a non cost effective exercise. will need to clean the gears a bit more thoroughly and see if they'll do another session but as they're prohibitive new. might try and procure the lot through the classifieds. shame to have it sitting there dead when it runs well.

Anna is now out at mum and dads for a while while the GSX receives a light freshen up (tyres, chain, tappet cover gasket and half moons, bit of casing polishing, fork seals and the front calipers/slides from BLUE). gonna hold off on the bevel gear rebuild for a bit and see what becomes available and i already have a response to my ad which is a delightful surprise.

have the bulk of my christmas holiday period allotted to it and probably the more entertaining (read fiddly and mundane) exchanging of old for new items on the katana. my build thread on both of those appears to have been pruned so might post progress in this one instead.

the katana is now wearing four factory indicators (two chrome 1100g type, one black and chrome single wire thread earthed and a corresponding two wire type) and they work fine. did a filter and oil change the other day and inspected the holes in the mufflers while down there.

might also be onto a gsx750et within an 1100's framework through one of my work contacts. hope to see it in the flesh soon and determine its feasability.


bought a dead'ish 84 cbx750fe honda for spare metric bolts and cos it was cheap and groovy. rusted forks, hydraulic tappets, missing bodywork and all. i'm not getting any brighter but at least i'm running out of space at the same time.

happy new year.

weather has been crap teetering between humid hot and no breeze, and torrential rain. not looking like it'll improve in the shortterm either so today i bit the bullet.



this is the dismembered remnants of tinkerbell in my lounge room over some cardboard, timber and newspaper. rolled in this arvo as a complete riding bike and a few hours in the aircon the tank, airbox, carbs, wheels, lower fork legs/springs/damper rods, exhaust, and chain are off.

tyres and fork seals are going on tomorrow. carb refurb will follow during the week as will cutting chain to right length. want to get the mufflers sent away sooner than later so they can be reworked and chromned properly.

I love that you've brought you bike into the house. I've got an ac unit stuck into my garage when it's unbearable in the summer, but no heat for the winter. Happy New years to ya!

carbs are on and with luck they'll do the job. the pilots are up to 47.5 from 45's. tyres virtually fell on as the rims are a good design. have stuffed the forks full of dexron. halfheartedly look forward to tomorrow when the new chain comes under attack with an angle grinder to become the right number of links. should be mostly oiltight now too.

I used to ride the 750 into the Family room after work everyday and she had no problem with that at all.

i think its the natural place for em. have had the MZ in a motel room, vincent in a kitchen, the dt200 saw many a nighton the verandah where the cbr now resides and the two 1100 shafties were side by side residents of the laundry prior to my getting the hound.

new chain is on and centre stand alterations are proof measured. the front calipers are back in place and i'm a bit worried on the level of slop in the slide bolts. anyone ever rebushed the slide housing as the alloy not the bolt has given. think thats where half the feel has gone and it's the reason for so much initial lever movement.

she's almost ready to go back outside and have her tank back on in fact. few fiddly jobs left but no rush, its a nice ornament.
