Condensation will accumulate in the vacuum line. Don't mistake that for back flowing of fuel. My old mercury sync gauge used clear tubes and quite a lot of condensation would be visible in those tubes.

Air is also choking off the fuel at low RPM's and that disconnecting the vacuum line to synch the carbs made it run nice.Either way it looks like the petcock is the problem.

With some discussion it's been decided to get this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/291675152778?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT petcock rebuild kit.Yes I can see the going.I just want to keep a stock petcock and $300+ is just to much to spend.Don't really what to do the futzing around to put a 750/850 one in either. With every thing on mine in pretty good shape this should work.Going to take special care on the O ring seat.

I know that people on here have had less than sterling results with rebuild kits, but I used a kit on mine years ago and it is still working fine.

Well I managed to get the 83 750 petcock hooked up wit a bit more fuel line than I would like but on just idling it's already way better.Off for a ride!
Still going to get the rebuild kit for the 1000 petcock but I just want to enjoy the riding weather

No such luck, the 750 petcock seems to do exactly the same thing as to 1000 oneBack to waiting

Have you tried running it set to prime - with and without the vacuum line attached? Blocked when not attached of course...

No big surprise, the rebuilt petcock dumped 1/2 a tank of gas into the engine caseYes right though brand new neddles and seats in the carbs

It doesn't sound as if they are sealing very well.

probably ran down the vacuum tube and NOT thru the carbs...as thats the usual route if the floats are seating the needles correctly.
