      Mmmm... the smell of MEK in the afternoon

      I used the top part of a 2 inch test plug with a piece of metal to catch the lip of the filler neck and an old inner tube as the gasket material. I post a picture of it as soon as the tank is devoid of the old tank liner.

        I am not familiar with MEK, maybe its sold here under another name?

        I hope you float is MEK resistant!

        I was wondering how long it will take to loosen the lining completely. Will you need to heat the tank with MEK to speed it up?

          Andre, That plate you see is just that, a plate. All the bracketry, arms, float and electrical's have been cut off. Works great as a hole filler and it came with the petrol tank when I bought it. I didn't have to do a thing to it other than wind up the leads and bolt it on.

          The M.E.K. took about two hours to dissolve the lining. I drained the MEK from the tank, put about a pint of lacquer thinner in it, sloshed it around and drained it as well. Right now it has petrol in it to keep it from rusting until the crud in the MEK settles out, then I'll put the MEK back in the tank to dissolve what ever lining material might be still left in it.

          Also, no heat is necessary.

            That was much quicker than I would have thought. I must find out if MEK is available around here. It could be useful!

                The hand is doing really well, but my back is the issue once again. I had a myleogram and a cat scan done this past Monday and I been taking so much pain med's lately my feet have been swelling up from all the water I've retained. I guess it's time I stopped putting off having the Doc work on it 'eh as it's been almost 4 years now.

                I should have an update on the fuel tank this weekend if all goes well.

                  Has been nearly 11 for my 2 herniated discs. I had an appointment for follow up results on my "other" medical things ( see my other thread for an update ) so yeah i get the pain and constant soreness your in. I was bent over and stretching in the chair when he came into the exam room today and he tought i was passing out. I explained i was exceptionally sore today and was trying to stretch a bit. I have much mjuch empathy for where your at my friend!!!!!

                    Dale...Cabin ever will soon overtake you. You getting back into the swing with the bike yet? How ar along have you gotten with the engine?

                        Straightened up the back room attached to the garage and built some additional shelving. Moved the Shelby from the barn at the Ex-wife's house to my driveway. Working on getting a new body for it so that will need an open spot in the garage to park them side by side. Today I'll be finishing up with the reassembly of Stans GS1100GK's cylinder head.

                        Soon Chuck... I'll be back on her very soon.

                          I am holding to the [promise that when you get her done, we will ride together. I will start saving gas money to come to MI. I would like to ride up north to the guys (Joe) place and have him see the bike again. He will really be awestruck.

                              From dales place, about 150 miles. Thats the bike i found from a guy that came up to me at the gas pump when i was on my 77 750. Some may recall the story. dale has some pics of her "RIPE" from the barn..LMAO. Talk about a rough bike!! I actually passed on it ( and i dont usually squirm from much ) but she looked way worse than anything I wanted to tackle!!!!
