SUBSCRIBED! I love a low budget bike build... heck I got less than $100 total in the "Lil Sister" cafe' of mine ... and she's on her second season.

Not much progress today.
I finished tightening all of the exhaust clamps, flushed the engine, changed the oil and polished the turd some more.
The oil filter cover got new acorn nuts and washers to replace the missing ones.

A teaser picture of what it might end up looking like.

Still haven't adjusted the timing, points or plugs.
Running engine with new diesel oil (Valvoline).
Seems to rev up fairly well. I still need to work on the choke linkage.

Considering you haven't adjusted anything yet, that sounds pretty good to me
Making good progress!Comment

Only spent about a few hours on it today.
Most of the time was spent sanding (polishing the turd) of a rear tail piece.
(why can't I just have NO IMAGINATION, NO DRIVE TO SUCCEED, NO PRIDE IN MY WORK and be LAZY like all of those people that just spray everything flat black?
)
Cleaned some more electrical connections on the turn signals that I decided to use.
Installed the rear fender with all new bolts. (decided against the original plan of using a chrome rear fender. It was going to be too much work for now.)
Still haven't decided on which seat that I am going to use.

After getting rid of a certain forum member's dead beat friend's H-D,
I now have some time to get back to MY projects!
So, I slapped together some of the parts for my long dead junkyard bike.
With a set of gauges and a fuel tank from GSR members and a bunch of odds and ends that were lying around.
It is almost a bike again!
The brakes and suspension that were previously covered in this thread work GREAT!!!
I need to adjust the handlebar back a wee bit and find a matching rear tail piece to go with the '79 seat.
Anyway, here are a few pic's from the test ride and a short video that I took when I made it back...
When I first got it...

And now, today...

More fine tuning and a valve adjustment to come no doubt.

With Pete getting closer with his 450 down under,
I had to do some of the same.
It almost hit 70 degrees out today so it was time to do some more painting.
Last week...

Today...

Still have to sand and clear-coat a few times.
I was planning on using gold as the accent color but, no gold paint.
So white it is.
Tank and side covers get finished tomorrow also, hopefully.

That tail piece is looking good! I like that blue, should look real nice once you've got some clear on it and it's all polished up

I/we want to see your beautiful 450 running down the road BEFORE the end of November.
Remember that this is a cheap Krylon paint job build. Limited in color choices.
I was trying to do a crappy job and just cannot bring myself to doing less than something.
The tank was flat black and dented everywhere (still has 2 size able ones), the side covers and tail looked like the surface of the moon.
I was originally just going the flat black route but any idiot can do that.

Well, that would be nice... but won't be able to do tyres and probably the seat cover until after mid-November (monthly pay sucks)... but you never know, if I get everything else ready...I/we want to see your beautiful 450 running down the road BEFORE the end of November.

That's looking pretty good for a crappy job! You wouldn't know that tail piece had anything wrong with it now.
What did you use to fill the dents in on the tail piece? Just normal body filler?
And I'm glad you didn't go the flat black either

+1 Flat black would not have done her justice like that blue does... shows thought especially with the stripes! Looking good.Comment

Still needs a lot more work.
If I knew that I was going to spend this kind of time on it,
I would have just bought some automotive paint and did it right.
Here's what the side cover emblems looked like...

Before polishing with wire wheel...

Slapped it together before the Sun sets.
It might look good from Space but here on Earth it still looks like crap...
