It is not....you did manage to freak me out though and make me go back out in the garage and look at it.....its slight marking on it....so slight I couldn't even feel it with my finger......my guess as to why it looks rusty is a combination of poor light and my flash highlighting it......thanx for the heads up.......

Those gaskets look like mine were when I went to clean all the surfaces up.

Take it slow when getting the old gasket material off. I used liberal amounts of metho on a rag to soften it up and get it moving off.

They recommend a wooden or plastic scraper to get the material off. I used a small flat head screwdriver but be real cautious as you can easily score the soft alloy gasket surface and cause yourself a leak.

K&N don't make a replacement element for it?

You could always gut the airbox and make a different air filter fit, just make sure everything still seals up nicely.

              I haven't seen a 425 airbox so don't know how hard/easy that would be...

The filter in those bikes is foam isn't it?Flows and filters better than a K&N.

If necessary replace the foam but other than that you have as good a filter as you can get in it.I've cut pleated paper out and replaced with foam.

Dragging back my memories of my GS425E it was a foam air filter on a metal frame.
