Mine has one of the slave mounting bolt threads drilled out so I have a nut on the inside that causes interference

Ahhh, I thinky that could be a problem. But, maybe tap it for an 8x1.25 and forget the alignment sleeve?

Rode 150mi last Friday the rear was much better softer smoother but it made the front feel stiff. Today found both the compression and rebound were turned all the way in?
