I have a 1985 GS550 EF that I'm in the process of rebuilding from the ground up. The bike sat for the last 10 years, with the immediate last 2 years being out in the rain/snow. It's missing the seat, side panels, fairings & front cowling.
I plan on taking the bike apart myself and sending all of the salvageable pieces to get rebuilt and refinished.
Here are a few pics if the bike when I got it:
I spent 2 days so far taking off pieces and i'm actually surprised that most of what came off is in fairly good condition, with minimal surface rust in some places. I was also surprised that there was still gas left in the tank.
After 2 day's of removing parts, here is what it looks like so far:

I'm almost done removing all the electrical/wiring. By next week I should have the front/rear brakes off as well as the entire front end. I'll be posting up pic's as I go along.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips, please feel free to post them up.
