What gs650 model

I'm on with a gs650 project at the moment and are trying to find out which model gs I have. It's a shaft drive and on a c reg (1985). The documents have just come but just say gs. I know there is g,gl,gs,gxd etc
If I list the engine number or vin plate is there a site I can find more info on

Evidently you guys got the 650 for a longer time than we did. Our last ones were in 1983.

On the steering stem you will see the VIN, which will have the official designation on it, but as tkent asked, if you would post a picture, we can help you a bit, too.

For sure, it's a GS. In most countries other than the USA, the GSX was reserved for the 4-valve per cylinder models, your 650 is not one of them.

Because it has a shaft drive, it will have a "G" after the size, so it would be a GS650G.

If it has leading-axle forks and a stepped seat, along with chrome fenders and a few other touches, it would be a GS650GL

If it's actually a 1985 model, it would have the letter "F" at the end, so it could be a GS650GF or a GS650GLF.

Out of curiosity, what is the engine number (right above clutch actuating arm) ?

The issue with pods, and do take some time to read up on threads about this issue, is that the 650 was incredibly well-balanced with the stock airbox, and people find it difficult to get the AFR setup well with pods especially poor quality pods.

Thanks for the information. Got everything in boxes for the bike and found stock air filter but definitely not got the plastic air filter housing. Busy sorting the electrics at the minute and trying to find where to mount the electric components like the reg and ignitor ,fuse box etc

Probably best to make up aluminum plate to hold all 3 - and if you stick with pods, there's plenty of places to mount it.

The R/R and ignitor units mount on a bracket that attaches to the stock airbox...as Tom says, with a little ingenuity, you can find another location, or fab something up out of aluminum. On the 650G, both the R/R and ignitor are found below the air filter box. The stock location for the fuse box is on top of the airbox, under the seat.
