    Mini project? 1980 GS550E

Hope this will not turn into a major project.

Bought as a non runner for spares or repair.

Having just spent £5k on restoring a 62 Triumph 3TA, a bit cautious about spending more thasn its worth !

PO had removed exhausts (snapped manifold studs) front mudguard and brake caliper.

Do you have all the missing pieces? If so, it doesn't look like it would take too much work to clean it up and make it a runner.

Oy, that's one grungy engine, though!

I removed carb top covers for a peek and seem OK, fitted stainless screws instead of originals as some were chewed up.

          when these were new
I walked into my local bike shop to check on the repairs being done to my bike
and saw one in this paint job as I walked through the door
never got past the bike, just asked the salesman "how much trade will you give me for my bike in the workshop"
          it was mine 20mins later
had my helmet painted to match, have always loved this one

you should have fun with this, at least your rear shocks aren't as bad as mine

Just got the V5 through in my name and was able to check MOT history and was surprised to find it is current until June this year.

Dont understand why PO did not say, as would have fetched more money with MOT.

PO had removed one front brake caliper andfront mudguard, which I have refitted. Managed to bleed brakes after removing damaged reservoir screws.

              Carbs off

Removed the carbs and found that someone thought that some type of rubber jointing compound would be better than O rings on carb mounts.

              Cleaned a bit.

Lots of hard seals and dirt/fuel residue, disolved idle jet plugs (What is their purpose) and a broken float pivot post

              Never touched it gov!

Just to remind me how idle adjuster fits.
