1978 gs1000 to 1980 gs1000g frame
Hi guys, this is my first post here. I have a 78 gs1000 with a bad frame. I found a 1980 gs1000g shaft drive frame online and would like to use it to rebuild the bike. Would all of the running gear from the 78 work on the 80 frame? The 80 is a shaft drive and the 78 is chain I'm thinking that the swing arm from the chain bike would work but I'm not a 100% sure. Any advice?Tags: None -

It's not a simple plug and play for sure. I haven't done it myself but I'm pretty sure the motor mounts are different, I know tank mounts are different for sure and there's probably a number of other frame issue's. I'm sure someone will chime in on the matter that knows more accurate details. Basically it's going to be a bunch of welding work to make it work. What you need is a 77-79 GS750 frame. Your 1000 will bolt right in, I've heard it's a nice mod to do. If you put your local area in your thread, or better yet your signature along with your bike info I bet someone might have something for you. If you were anywhere near Victoria, BC Canada I would have frames for you. -
