After selling my 850GT last year i felt sad so my girl got me a 1000GT.

It needed some love. So i went through the wiring harness and cleaned everything up checked the stator, r/r, coils and igniter all good. Did the fuse box diy upgrade. However i dont trust myself with it so i ordered an 83 fuse box.

Also on order is all the intake and airbox boots. carbs dipped and ready for sync.

on the to do list:

• sync carbs
• oil seals
• oil change
• tires
• gear oil change in secondary and final drive

Added 7-9-2014:

• valve check adjustment (Priority)
• break flush
• replace break lines
• Replace rubber bits and bobs

not sure what else is left to check but ill keep everyone posted as to the progress. Im going to get QQ historic plates for it so i wont ever have to pay reg

Don't bother synchronizing the carbs until you've done the valve adjustment. Maybe you just forgot to put it on your otherwise decent list, but it bears repeating. The bike will never run right if the valves get out of spec, and damage will eventually occur.

You should also flush the brake fluid at a bare minimum, but a complete rebuild with new lines really should be on the list.

Prolly oughtta clean the air filter while you have the airbox apart. They'll cause trouble too, if neglected.

Yes you are correct. I cant believe I forgot the valve check/adjustment. I was just eying out SS break lines at Z1 yesterday. The flush will happen soon. The breaks where the only thing that worked when my hands first touched the bike. So that was not thought of as a priority.

I also should add to the list new rubber do-dads like the pieces that hold on the side covers the tank and what not.

You've got one of the best all round GSes now. I had the 850's and finally found a 1000G and love it. Welcome to the site and can't wait to see some pics of the bike.

Going to the stealership later to have some gaskets cut.
Valve cover
Signal gen cover
Float bowls
Starter cover

Its way cheaper to have them cut there.
I know I can get a rubber reusable gasket for 20ish bucks for the valve cover but forgot where.

Get gaskets cut? What, do they have a laser cutter or something? Cool!

The reusable silicone rubber cam cover gasket is made by a company called realgasket.

Actualy Dogma i think it was like a cutter plotter. However they got rid of it cause it gave them problems. i said i would buy it off them but sadly its been gone for some time. so that sucks i had to order the gaskets. i also ordered the rubber do-dads for the seat and side covers which should be in next wed. Tomorrow i should be getting my left hand control back that a member sent me. Shout out to jsandidge.

I keep wanting to get moving on my build but i have to keep telling myself patience. Which in this world of almost instant gratification it has grown most difficult.

my next post is going to be pictures which are a bit lack luster currently but its a start.

Another passing thought was installing a sidestand kill switch. I had to purposely dump my 850 cause the sidestand was down. It was either dump or guard rail on a bend at 40mph. Yeah that hurt but I rode the bike home and had it fixed in a week. i still have the pieces and the helmet. the helmet is out of commission but its hanging in the garage as a reminder lol.

Yay my morgan carbtune came in yesterday.

Did the fork oil seals last night/this morning. made my dampener holder out of a 19mm bolt and a 1/2in socket and a fork oil height tool from bits and bobs around the garage. i set the psi to about 12.

The left hand control back that was supposed to be here yesterday now changed to tuseday. i hate when they change the delivery date on the fly.

Anywho the intake boots and such should arrive tomorrow and gaskets and rubber bits should be at the stealership wed. so im going to have a full week of poking checking and hopefully a lot of

When I first got my 1000, I forgot to check dem doodads and one side cover flew off into a corn field at hiway speed, so I never did find it.
(It would have been a cheap fix to have prevented it!) I could even have zip tied the side covers to the frame, until I could order those little guys.
Instead, I had to buy a NOS side cover and fill the holes for the badge and paint it.

My rubber side cover doodads are all replacements, now.
