The carburetor parts were soaked in http://www.hoppes.com/bore-cleaners/no-9-solvent for 1 hour. This stuff gets them spotlessly clean. Just flush with isopropyl alcohol to rinse. Carb bodies sonic cleaned 2-3 times with blow outs in between each cleaning. Pistons 1 hour at 80 deg C.




The anti-dives were plugged with a machined disc and then welded. I put Mikes XS emulators with adapters that SaltyMonk drew up.

Nice! Where did you get the stripe decals or did you paint them on? I haven't been able to find them.

That is the original paint. I probably won't get to the repaint till the fall or during next winter. However, I will be painting the stripe as I feel it will be the easiest way to do it.

Engine and all hardware was stripped of paint, bead blasted, aluminum oxide blasted and then sonic cleaned about 4 times with a washing and blowing out between sonic cleanings. Then it was painted with GunKote semi-gloss black and baked at 300F for 2 hours.

I am waiting for a couple of GS wiring harness's to show up from Pousseux. That way I can do the necessary repairs using the proper coded wires along with new connectors as required. At the same time there will be relay mods done.

How did you get the finish on the foot peg brackets and is that powdercoat or paint on the frame and swingarm? Love it!

I was going to say that bike looks very clean and coming along well, then I got hit between the eyes by that electrical panel WOW.

Yea, I know Posplayr. Hard to believe that is code here! Every other house I have owned I build a box around it. It's actually on my plans for this month.

The foot peg mounts are just blasted, primed and painted. Frame and swingarm are painted also. They want stupid prices to powder coat here. For the cost of powder coating just the swingarm I was able to buy materials to paint everything except the bodywork!

I am thinking about buying my own powder coating equipment this winter.

Agreed on the peg brackets and swinger looking great. What color and type of paint did you use?
The clear on my 1150's peg brackets is looking worse by the year.

I guess I should have said the "foot peg" brackets, as in the aluminum part, is just sanded and polished. Not shinny polished just the brushed look. I do not like the look of chrome finished aluminum. The brackets the the foot peg brackets attach to are just painted. The swing arm is also painted, I just use sherwin williams dimension line of paints for these parts. I use the next line of products up from Dimension for body work. I get my paints at shop prices, actually better than shop prices!

I was thinking about clearing the aluminum with Interlux Perfection clear utilizing a flattening agent to get the satin look. Perfection is a marine 2 part poly that I have used in the past with outstanding results, both on bikes and boats.

Having a blasting cabinet goes a long way in making the little parts look great.

people make fun of me when I do prep work for paint, I have learned that no matter what kind of paint you use, it is ALL in the prep work! I can make spray bomb paint jobs look pretty damn good! Being anal helps a lot! LOL!

This is exactly how my harness looks right now. Are you planning to move the electronics up to hide them? Or are you planning to leave them at the side?

They will be staying at the side, however I will be doing relay mods for coil, headlight and horn. Those will get moved under the seat. They will be going where the air box use to live as it runs pods. I will build a removable panel with a quick disconnect weatherproof connector.
