1983 GS750ES GSXR1100 Project bike

I picked up a project 1983 GS750ES a few weeks ago. It was supposed to be a runner needing cleaning up from sitting. Unfortunately the second pick is the Left cylinder. Water and rust. It needs top end work or more. the motor is moving freely but rust in cylinder and on valve stem. Looking for advice on fixing the motor or what else can I stuff in the frame. This is a 1986-7 1052 motor. I'm thinking GSXR / Katana 750 ?? Any help appreciated.

Yea, that is a great little bike that someone just parked alongside the shed. I smell divorce. no way the owner/builder just left that sitting outside with those wheels and rotors......

He actually moved to a new house and no garage shed. Left out one summer he says. He was very upset and surprised with the motor trouble. Built and owned the bike 23 + years. The motor and carbs sit high. He cut the tank and welded it up higher on the petcock.

I had to notch the bottom and move the petcock on mine also. Mine is getting a short stroke '88-'89 750 (same as '89-'97 Katana) motor. My carbs will sit as high as the 1100 motors would due to the short stroke 750s' "DOT" style cylinder heads raised intakes. You can put a 1052 top end and crank into a short stroke 750 bottom end, and the 1127 guts will fit with minor case boring.

Would be interested in learning more about the brake set-ups on that!
That has some nice parts on it, just in case you decide not to put out back together in some form.;-)
Having said that, I have a complete spare engine from an '85 GS 750 EF in my garage, in Burlington...

Pretty certain they aren't 1150 calpiers. Kinda look like these Lockheeds
Certainly is a cool bike. Sad to see that it was allowed to deteriorate.

Is that oil window beyond full? Hard to tell from picture, but looks completely black.
