Took the carbs back off and let a friend of mine who does such stuff, tinker with them. Back on, balanced, getting about 32. Still room for improvement, but the head will be coming off soon (leaky head gasket giving me incentive to put on a GSX-R DOT head and cams), so I may just leave it for now."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

I haven't read all the posts on is, but did you check the emulsion tubes? They are known for wearing out pretty fast on those carbs.Took the carbs back off and let a friend of mine who does such stuff, tinker with them. Back on, balanced, getting about 32. Factory Pro sells them separate I believe, and on many of the Dynojet kits they come with new tubes and needles. You cant use their tubes with the stock needles either as they use larger diameter tubes and needles.1982 GS1100E "Jolene"Comment

It's been jetted, with oval K&Ns and a D&D slip-on. The needles are black (anodized?)."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

I think that may be a good idea.
Mileage over the past few days has increased to 34, so It looks like the changes have been somewhat effective."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Pretty sure that was the first thing he did, but I think investigating replacing this unknown jet kit with a Dynojet might be the best way to move forward. I need to talk to RapidRay about the GSX-R head swap, and then will pursue better jetting."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Mine is a 2004, but when it was in factory config, it was getting mid 30s MPG with spirited riding. After I put a Holeshot stage 1 with timing advancer it went to low 40s. Bigger jets = better mileage, who would have figured....I do wonder how much the timing advancer helped.
Now mine is gen2 with a fairing, but I am surprised the change in MPG jetting had on this engine, none of my other bikes responded this way .1981 Suzuki GS250T

I had a full Holeshot pipe and a timing advancer on my old FZ1, along with a Holeshot jet kit that got swapped out for an Ivan's kit. That was a great combo, though I think the Bandit supposedly responds even better to such things."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Factory pro jet kit, with Ramair foam slip on filters, slid on to the rubber snorkel boots from the stock airbox. Are what work the best on these carbs.Comment

I ordered an Ivan's kit for it. When we get a chance, we'll install that and a new Delkevic slip-on (the old D&D has seen better days)."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

I need to get the carbs off. Either a needle/seat is sticking, or a float is hanging up. I noticed it bogging around 3000 RPM, and idling a bit ragged. Tapped the float bowl to body areas and the idle settled in. It also moved through the 3K area of the RPM range much more smoothly."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."
