    Holy crap, it started.

First time cracking open a head. 8 months in, ended up replacing the head with another, lapping, honing, seals, rings, gaskets, shims, plugs, exhaust, carbs (thanks Steve Woodin), the same long list as everyone else. I gave it a 20% chance of success. Thanks in no small part to the guys in this forum, first start today, fired right up. Other than a leaky petcock (new one ordered), seems to run great. Gives me new energy as I was thinking I'd never get there. Thanks everyone for the great advice and for answering some pretty obvious questions. Now on the the less important systems, brakes, tires, lights, etc. Still a long way before the first ride, but this was a milestone.

When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

Don't it really feel good to hear that thing purrrring? But wait, "less important systems", brakes, tires, lights. All in how you look at it, but at times these are the most important systems. Great work, keep it up, & keep us updated.
