ISO Pictures or "embossed numbering" order on lower crankcase 1980 GS850 GL Model T

    Hi Everyone,

I split my case and painted the halves with some thick paint and now that I am on to assembly...but I realized I cannot see the embossed numbers on the lower crankcase which are needed to tighten the lower bolts in order!

Does anyone have a picture of a lower case half that you could share so I can see the numbers and tighten the bolts in oder per the FSM? Or if you know the numbering can you translate it to me somehow?

    Thank you!

The factory manual has the tightening order information; tighten from inside to out in a crisscross pattern. This is for the large 8mm case screws clamping around the crank. The other screws don't have an order. It's wise to tighten them all in a two step fashion though. Be very careful not to strip the thinner 6mm screw threads; a lot of guys blindly trust the torque wrench and wind up stripping threads; be ready to stop turning if the screw isn't snugging tight like you expect.

I have the same problem with my engine serial number. Very frustrating.

Are you aware that Suzuki never painted the bottom case?

You are free to do what you want, but if you are rebuilding it with hopes of entering a concours competition, you will lose points on that detail.

On the other hand, ... when is the last time anyone entered their GS in a concours?

Really worth emphasizing this. Small diameter steel bolt/aluminum case threads/torque wrench can be a recipe for disaster.
