I'm getting re-started in drag racing. I aged out in flat track a long time ago and have kind of gotten out of shape for vintage MX and off road events (although I'm working to shape up and still do some of that) but, the desire to go drag racing has never left me...I did some back in the late 80's and early '90's winning a few trophies on a street bike and was starting to get the ball rolling on building a HD Super modified sportsman bike and got side tracked.
I've recently (after a long search) obtained a hopped up street GS 1100 and will get out to as many events as I can running brackets, learning and improving my bike with the goal to have some fun and maybe move up to an index class eventually.

Do you remember how you fared in the race?
i ran 7.72 @ 172 against the late great dave schutz in qualifying..we ended up in 17th spot so no race for us! dont know where the oshkosh came from?? we shipped the bike over with our dutch racing friends in a container. It was a kosman chassis with a baby 1294 16v star motor in it. we had a season long issue with chain breakage as soon as we put clutch in it. turned out it was a incorrectly size rear wheel centre spacer that locked the bearings solid after a certain force was applied... nick.

I've raced mostly Corvettes over the years. Fastest pass ever was a 6.87@210 in an Outlaw 10.5 C4. Made lots of passes on my old ZX11 and a few on the turbo Hayabusa, but more into old stuff now.

I will be putting down a few passes on the turbo kat for chits and giggles and will throw the 1100e in the trailer for fun as well. No competitive racing for me this year

I started drag racing a GS1000 in 1983 and have run with AMA Dragbike (set a national record in the altered class), IDBA (#3 plate nationally), and ProStar ( had one #1 qualifier in Top Gas), and ran in the Gatornationals in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class at my home track in Gainesville Fla (1986??)....All with a GS1000.....Have a box full of trophys in the attic....And retired from racing in 1991 to raise (race) children.....3 of them, So basically, I am a hardcore drag racer at heart........Have a lot of stories to tell because of it.....But am retired at the ripe old age of 58.....Wish there was more support for MC Drag racing, but the sport is slowly giving way to road racing and motocross racing.....It's not about the money, cause there isn't any, It's about that great feeling that you get when you whipped the competition that night/day after the race.....It"s priceless......Billy

I'm into drag racing too. Been racing since '93. (20 years this year! wth?) Started out on my stock '82 Katana 1100. That same bike I still have and is currently a Kosman-back-halved car-tire dragbike. Haven't raced it in 10 years, but the plan is to bring it back out this year. 20 years ago I started on this bike, so it will be cool to bring it back out again.
I've raced a variety of bikes over the years, from my Katana street-bikes, a Nighthawk-S, 1100E, turbo-Busa, and my current race bike and daily driver is my 2000 Hayabusa. For this year, I plan on bringing the old car-tire Kat back out, but I am also building an '83 Katana street bike for friday fun nights, and street class racing. Should be a fun year! Looking forward to it! Drag racing is a great sport.
