An epic rookie season comes to an amazing finish. Here's the article from BBC News:

MotoGP: Marc Marquez becomes youngest world title winner
By Gary Rose BBC Sport
Marc Marquez has become the youngest MotoGP champion as a third-place finish at the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix secured him the 2013 world title in his rookie year.
Jorge Lorenzo won the race but Marquez, 20, only had to finish fourth to become the first debut-season title-winner since American Kenny Roberts in 1978.
Dani Pedrosa was second, but only Lorenzo could deny Marquez.
"This is a dream that comes true," he said. "I cannot explain what I feel."

Nice job updating the thread! Youngest champion ever! Amazing.:D

Thanks (NOT) **Spoiler Alert in case you mised the first unavoidable spoiler**

Thanks (NOT) **Spoiler Alert in case you mised the first unavoidable spoiler**

Thanks a million. I was (UN)lucky enough to log in early enough to see your first post with the answer in the title. Makes my planned watching of the race later today rather anticlimactic, doesn't it?

For future reference, World Championship Motorcycle racing is not always broadcast live in other parts of the world. Even if it is the times are often not convenient to watch live so many of us record the event to watch it later. So, even though the actual event has already taken place many of us do not know, and DO NOT WANT to know the outcome. In the world of internet forums, posting information like race results is known as a 'SPOILER'. Proper forum etiquette and respect for others dictates that results should not be posted in titles of threads, nor should any blatant hints such as 'Youngest MotoGP Champion ever'. Also, if such results are posted within the thread, the words 'Spoiler Alert' should be included in the title.

Joe,

I'm sorry. After the first post I made Nessism pointed out the problem and I immediately deleted the thread and revamped the thread title to not give the result away. Unfortunately, some like yourself must have seen it already. Again, my apologies.

Great race, great season. The kid will win many championships.

Nice outcome all around. And Marquez!... incredible talent, true passion.

Not sure how i feel, though, about Laguna Seca being dropped from next year's schedule

Go Marquez! It was on at 10:30pm here so I stayed up to watch, glad I did!

The first 1/3 to 1/2 of that race was a corker, good to see Pedrosa fighting for a change this year and if he did that more often he may find himself in better championship places...

Pedrosa fighting??? it only appeared that way, because Jorge was riding at a reduced pace hoping the other Yamaha riders (Rossi, Crutchlow, Smith etc) would get between himself and Marquez. When Lorenzo saw that even at a reduced pace, the others were incapable of doing their job, he LEFT EVERYBODY including Pedrosa.

i suggest you watch it again! Pedrosa was all over Lorenzo until he punted him off the track, seems like all that moaning Lorenzo has done about Marquez doing the exact same thing doesn't count when he decides to do it.
Pedrosa fought his way back up through the back and was catching Lorenzo upto the point that there was no point risking all for a second place on the podium.
Marquez BACKED off because he had no need to prove anything, he knew finishing 3rd (or even 4th) would still clinch him the championship. he even waved Pedrosa through.

Yep, that's how it looked to me too... I mainly noticed because it was so unusual for Pedrosa just not to sit there! :D

Marquez has been good for Pedrosa like Stoner was... made him think about doing something

Next year should be even better now Marquez has a year under his belt and a championship...

It'll be interesting to see how well Rossi goes now he's dismissed Burgess too...

Burgess didn't look like he was real happy about it either .
Rossi is trying to find someone else to blame for failing performances .
He couldn't win at Ducati and now he can't win at Yamaha .
He was a great rider and a great champion but now it's time to admit that he can't keep up with the young blokes . He only did any good this year because others faultered rather than because of his own ability .
Time to retire me thinks .

Cheers , Simon .

Burgess being "fired" is not exactly what it is made to look like. JB's wife is ill and he wanted to spend more time with her, but he refused to part as Rossi's engineer. the only way was for Rossi to force him to leave. ie. "fire" him.
they parted amicably but, as usual, the press got hold of it and twisted the whole story before they were ready to make it official.

I don't think we can blame Rossi for not doing well at Ducati, but I do have to wonder why he couldn't keep pace with Lorenzo.

most of Rossi's lack of improvement at Ducati was due to the severe lack of R&D. he had to make do with the same frame for 10 months, where as Honda developed 13 different frames in 1 season. they actually bought 4 different frame/swingarm set ups to 1, 3 day test session.
now Ducati have the "lab" bike, but they are seriously lacking in the progress the rest of the teams have made.
