    Removing the baffle for dragracing

So, I took my 80 gs1100 to my local drag strip for the first time in a couple of years. Ran some decent times around 11:80's. Still learning how to launch consistently. Decided to remove the baffle from my V&H & immediately ran a 11:65. This tells me the bike is fat with the baffle in. It always smells rich at idle even though the plugs seem a decent brown.
Time to tear back into my carbs I guess.
    80 gs1100 16-v ported & polished, 1 mm oversize intake valves, 1150 carbs w/Dynojet stage 3, plus Bandit/gsxr upgrades

It tells me you're baffle is too restrictive. I don't believe you're mixture changes that much, there's just more volume through the carbs. Intake modifications is where you run into jetting issues because you're changing the differencial pressure in the carbs. My bike is sportier without the baffle but the sound annoys the police and my neighbors

Not sure how the V&H street baffle is too restrictive. It consists of a length of perforated pipe with a cap on one end. No packing or anything else.

Back pressure. Maybe the term "too restrictive" should have been just "restrictive".

Your intake track is flowing more air than the exhaust system can flow with the baffle in causing a back up. If you slow the flow out you will slow the flow in which will cause a loss of power at the higher rpm's

my bandit lost 1-1/2 tenths when i removed the baffle..
it always ran faster and quicker with the baffle and packing.
            just the facts...

sounds like your exhaust flows better or you might be on the lean side

my Bandit likes no baffle best

                4-2-1 two brothers system w/ 38RS carbs and 1052 cams...+5 advancer.
it never liked the guts pulled so it was quiet and pretty fast for a big guy and near stock engine.
                low 10.70's @129.9999...never 130mph. stock wb and a bear to ride...high 1.70 60' and worse.

                    well crap!
i added a used trac arm and went low 10.50's but lost MPH...about 3-4 MPH loss.
even with the arm it still was hard to not rotate over on top of me...60's went down to 1.60's pretty consistently.
there was a small guy(hundred lbs lighter than me) with one set up similar but had a 14 over arm and a slick.
he ran 9.90's but might as well had bars on it...it wouldn't flip over with a crane..lol

Now you got me wanting to take the Bandit to the Man Cup race next weekend instead of the GS I haven't raced the Bandit in a long time
