Max power from 1150 carbs on my gs1100

I've tried so many jet combinations to get my 80 gs1100 w/1 mm oversize intake valves and mild port job to produce maximum power at the drag strip that I can't remember my original combo.
Right now I'm running 130 main, 45 pilots and 160 air jets, stage 3 Dynojet kit, needle in the middle, Ape pods and V&H 4-1. The bike idles great and acceleration is good but at steady throttle between 3-5 thousand, the motor misses and backfires. I've had to turn the air screws about 6 turns out to get it to run this good. I'm thinking about raising the needle one notch to start with as it seems lean.

    Any other advise?

Assuming you pull to redline using the 130 mikuni main; work on the needle. If it is popping it is probably lean.

Put the needle on the second notch from the bottom and lose the DJ washer

Also, go to 47.5 pilots & 140 mains. Will be an entire different bike!!!

I'd figure his main is not far off, but I blanked on the 47.5 pilot jet.

Don't 1150 carbs come with 47.5? or just Canadian carbs?

Dunno; but with 4:1 and DJ needle you need the 47.5.
              with 4:2:1 and DJ 45.0

Mine are set with 47.5 pilots - dynajet kit #3133 - which has the 160 air corrector - DJ138 main jets and the needle set at position #4 from the top with a washer
SUZUKI , There is no substitute

Is jetting altitude dependent? What altitude are you racing at?

Yes altitude changes jetting requirements. Higher altitude=thinner air=need smaller jet, and vice versa.
