Mystery of the Wandering Idle SOLVED! [Mine at least]

Been banging my head against this one for a while. Idle would race and stick, or would completely bottom out while riding and would only stay running if I held the throttle.

Went through all of the usual suspects: boots, o-rings, mixture screws, double and tripple checking for vacuum leaks etc etc...

Well I just discovered that my Idle screw, or more accurately, the hole it threads into, is a little wonky and while at idle, there is enough reaistance to keep it in place, however once I twist the throttle, it begins do dance and rattle in and out, depending on the RPM.

So there you have it folks. Every now and then, the answer is "guess she's just a bit wobbled out, mate" 😆

Do you mean the mixture screw or throttle stop screw?
Either way there should be a spring on both which stops them from moving through vibration regardless of the closeness of fit .

I had my GS1000 doing the same thing last summer, except mine would only increase rhe idle a bit. All I did was stretched the spring as it had collapsed over the years. Only bummer was the easiest way to do it was to pull the carbs.

I can't think of any other purpose for that spring? Anyway glad you git it fixed, that's the main thing.

Looks like it need to find myself a spring to go there then!
