    abralon pads

Anyone here have any experience with/tips for using abralon pads vs. sandpaper? I've used it in my woodworking ventures, a la polishing up varnished jewelery boxes, but how bout with the shiny things in life? It's not ferrous like steel wool, so bits and pieces left behind won't turn to rust monsters.

I do not know those pads, but we get some from the bodyshop suppliers here, that come in different colours and hardnesses. The pad is about 9" x 9" and about 1/4" thick.
I have used these with some water and scouring powder to clean up the aluminium parts very nicely. I have also cut these into disks and used on my electric drill to polish the fins.
They give a flat dull finish which then polishes up very easily.

I think we might be talking along the same lines. The pads I've used are backed with a thin foam like material that will stick to hook and loop adapters. Theyre about 8 inches in diameter. The grit numbering system is a little different too.
