hard to start

hello everybody,
so here's my problem:
just changed for a new battery, after my bike ( gs1000s) sleeped for the winter..and it's very difficult to start...
the starter makes a noise like there s a low power battery...
so i charge the bettery over night and still the same...
it starts pretty well when i push it tought...
and it runs well to ( did a trip this week-end for aboout 300km with no problem...)
but to start with the starter, even with a new battery takes a while...
I know that i have a charging problem ( thanks to the stator pages )
but i think that if i put a new battery, the bike should start , as long as there's enought power in it...
i also took the starter apart to "clean" it, but nothing changes ...
can someone help..

could be the starter dying out on ya. i would also check the switch, and your grounds related to the starter. try crossing the poles of the starter relay and see if it starts strong then, will give you someplace to go from.

You mean replacing the + by the - on the relay ??

so i plugged a wire directly from the battery + to the + on the starter...
and same thing.. it sounds like the starter is not strong enought to move the cylinders...
am going to try (after the rain..)with the + and ground aswell directly from the battery to the starter,
if its the same should i check if the starter connects well to the engine, int the stator side...maybe the starter clutch don't stick enought to the wheel...

connect the starter directly from the fully charged battery (both + and -)
if it still doesnt work well, take the starter out and try it the same way
if it works ok now, your starter clutch is likely at fault

Did you use a big fat wire like a jumper cable?
A small wire won't carry enough current to run a starter properly.

thanks psyguy for the suggestions,
took the starter out, opened it , cleaned it, tryed direct on bat and it works..
now going to try on the bike
and getting ready to check this damned sterter clutch...

OK :
the big screw holding the rotor (magnets ) to the engine wasen't tight enought...
now it starts like a babe...
