Tutorial for building a gas tank.

Awhile back there was a thread about building a fiberglass gas tank. An excellent site for projects like this is the Do the Ton forum (cafe racer folks). With thanks to CCRider from that site I forward his stellar tutorial for building a tank. Likely the best I've seen :http://dotheton.com/index.php?PHPSES...c&topic=6339.0

In other threads they are some good tutorials also for seat building so have a look.

A very impressive job well documented.

But I owned and rode a '71 Norton Commando for a few years several lifetimes ago. It had its original fiberglass tank.

It developed a drip-drip leak and I always feared what might happen in the event of a crash.

I think I'll stick with metal ones from now on.

Amazing craftsmanship. The size of that thing makes me laugh a little; as if anyone could take a long trip on a bike like that. None the less, very impressive.

I'd agree with the guy who commented that it was preferable to build it in two halves, because the I cover the joint with a big brown (not black) leather strap securing tank to frame. Saw an old motocross bike like that, and never forgot it.

Also, may have a beautiful 'glass cover over a safer but cruder metal tank might be good.
