I did much the same thing a couple of years ago using the top off a tripod.

As well as fitting my camera I later made up a flat ali plate with threaded hole to stick on my radar detector so I can mount either camera or radar.

I have problems with bounce (flex in the bracket) the camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5) has 2 stabilization modes which I believe do a lot to reduce the vibration movement but the flimsy bracket and the fact that it's mounted to the tacho (which moves a lot due to old rubber isolation pads) results in the camera bouncing more than vibrating.

There's a little yellow icon above the text box with a mountain range in it... This is the button you click to add a picture. A box will pop up, and you can paste in the address from your photobucket picture to get it to display directly here...

I have never seen this mountain range icon, I've looked, it's not there. I wonder why?

Wow! That's odd ... even the "quick reply" at the bottom has some of the "core icons," like the picture link, the web link, etc...

You might want to try editing your User CP options and see whether you've selected the "advanced" reply format as your default. I seem to recall that there are several choices available...

Wow pretty neat camera ideas. I didn't even see any of these recent posts until tonight. I get most of what you're saying about arm length and weight, and stuff. Yes my camera is a bit on the porky side :P.

In this case that would be an advantage ... More mass means the camera is less affected by vibration!

I made this camera mount. My new cafe fairing has a nice flat spot right behind the windshield. I thought that was a good spot for the camera to be.

I drilled a hole on that flat spot.


And this bolt, screws onto the camera but the screw was too long. That plastic piece is threaded so I can use that to tighten it up more, securing the camera to the fairing.


I don't have a picture of the camera mounted. I only have one camera

I'll try it out and post it on youtube tomorrow.

Heres a mount I made up for my camera on my first `78 GS1000...about 30 years ago.
Bits of 2X4, plumbers strapping, carpet underlay..for my super8 movie camera.
Squeezed the trigger, engaged the trigger lock and activated the camera with a remote on/off switch taped to the handlebar.
Ahhhh...such is technology eh?
