    Reinstalling engine over pistons

I noticed one of my non-GS motorcycle manuals had a tip in there about using hose-clamps to compress the piston rings while you slide the cylinder block over. I recently recommended this to member Karstan and he reported
that it worked well for him with a little massaging.
This will save you $50 or so dollars over using compressors.
    Enjoy.

I use hose clamps all the time. Works ok. I have looked all over for a decent affordable alternative. The Suzuki ones are an option, but I don't know if they would work with my bored out engine.

If you own a BSA or a Triumph twin, with no taper at the base of the cylinder, you'll find these useful:

They also happen to fit a few Suzukis.

Much quicker than hose clamps (though with the taper on our bikes it's even quicker just to freehand the pistons in with a lolly stick).

I used hose clamps to reinstall my pistons and jugs. Even with a second pair of hands, it was quite a PITA to do.
