    Drain plug magnet

In the past i've put a small [1/4" - 3/8"] super magnet on the drain plug and just installed it, assuming that there isn't any force likely to dislodge it and nothing bad would happen.

Nothing bad ever happened, but is there any reason why this is a bad idea? I haven't ever actually done this to a GS, just other bikes that had primitive filtration.

    Opinions?

Sounds OK to me, but check to see if your plug already has a magnet on the end.

    Mine does.

I make sure each oil drain plug has a magnet as an "early warning" sensor of some catastrophe. Just don't imagine this is pro-actively filtering your oil. If your engine is actively blowing chunks, the problems are bigger than a sump magnet will reverse.

Regular oil and filter changes are still mandatory.
