Knievel was one of my childhood heroes. I remember getting the action figure, the powered bike and the ramp for Christmas sometime mid-70's. He was a badass.
Great video! Good points on many issues, too. I have to admit, I am excited about CNN's "The Seventies" series."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

By the way, was that Laurence Fishburne's dad riding in part of that vid?"Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

The guy actually was 'the real thing' in the years before he became a self-promotion machine.
I remember watching a Knievel special where he had some car mocked up to look like a top fuel dragster, but it was massively counterweighted rearward so that the slightest bit of throttle would pull the front wheels up. This was passed off as a series of daring wheelstands. Turn this s#@$@t off.
It was so hokey that it passed for Camp for a few minutes; but mainly it was just sad and stupid.and God said, "Let there be air compressors!"

Oh, absolutely. I think, after a bazillion stunts and the attendant broken bones, etc., he was ready for some comfy lucre. I think he died pretty poor, though."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

I was expecting to see such old chestnuts as 'when to lay it down'. I was pleasantly surprised. Knievel wasn't much of a rider but his safety gear advice is good."Men will never be free until Mark learns to do The Twist."

Allie, are you saying Knievel wasn't a skilled motorcycle rider? Jumping as many cars, busses (successfully at times, with 19 cars being his record-which stood for nearly 30 years and 14 Greyhounds being his bus jump record, a 133 foot distance) etc. as he did takes some serious skill. I'd wager he would have ridden circles around nearly all of us here at GSR when he was in his prime."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Seriously specialized skill. He doesn't appear to have been especially skilled as far as street riding goes. He could ride wheelies and jump cars for days. I've seen a few foot dabs and balance/control faux pas in clips.Allie, are you saying Knievel wasn't a skilled motorcycle rider?
