GS1100 4 Four Carb install installation mounting mount

Ok, this one worked out pretty good for me and have to give credit to others here who gave me some ideas that surely helped.

After cleaning up and rebuilding my carbs I found a good, easy way to reinstall them.

I remember how difficult it was to just pull them out, thought I was in for a nightmare putting them back in?!.

This is after reading/searching everything I could on site.

Then I "tried" everything I learned here on the site.

I came up with this,...which thankfully, no, refreshingly, came together rather quickly.


I used a ratcheting strap to hold the airbox fully, no FULLY, to hold back the airbox in the frame towards the rear to give MAX clearance for the carbs.
I had lubed up the airbox/carb inlets with a spray on silicone lube and test fit the carbs to airbox beforehand,....all good. Easy slip on fit.

Here's the picture, just imagine the carbs not there yet.

Strap is positioned just under the airbox/carb inlets.
Strap is anchored back to the seat hold down brackets. A straight pull backwards.
seriously, the airbox cannot go further back than this?!.

Then I slid the carbs in, from the left hand side, but either would work I think.
Hooked up the choke and throttle linkages.
Arranged the fuel hose and carb vent hoses appropriately.

Then slide the whole four carbs into their airbox rubber boots,...went together pretty easily.

Ok, now the carbs are mounted BACK fully into the airbox boots.
Just kinda sitting there on their own.
In the pic above I've already got one of the carb/motor boots pre installed in proper orientation.

The few times I've taken my carbs off, I've not had any issues. I remove the airbox first, then the carbs have plenty of room to come out. Mine is an 83 1100G, so it may be different...

Ok, now all carb/motor boots are in position, clamps set up in proper configuration to be tightened down, two from one side, two from the other.
Looking good right?

Now remove the strap going around the airbox and back to the rear frame.

Now remount that strap around the upper aspect of the carbs and frontwards around the motor.

Cuz seriously,...those carbs are not going into all four boots easily/by hand/all at the same time?!.

A little pressure with the ractheting strap and some wrestling/wiggling of the carbs, should allow you to get the carbs pulled into all four of the rubber boots.

Check that the alignment of the boots and carb/motor are all good right,....look down from above and see it.

Then go around and tighten up all the clamps.
Fiddle around and make sure the airbox to frame mounts line up and bolt it together.

The trick is being able to rotate the carb/motor boots into place from the top side,....
you have to start with the narrowist of sides and squeeze the boot between the motor and carb,...once it starts on both flanges you can rotate the rubber boot around to it's proper position.

Put the boots on the motor first and I go in the right side part way then hook up the throttle linkage then push them the rest of the way in, then into the boots with the straps. I don't take the battery box out either, just take the bolts out of it. The more you do it the easier it is to do

Ok, I might try that,...don't know how your clearing both the boots on the motor and the airbox at the same time tho,...

Hey! I just did this with a slight variation. I put all carb holders on after the air box and carbs were installed, since they were new boots, the installation was easy.

Without a doubt, this is the easiest way I have every done it!
