    brake pads

Can you recomend a good softish front brake pad for my GS1000G The discs are like new (and clean) but the stopping power is crap Not bothered about life expectancy of the pads as don't do many miles a year Has new brake fluid and hoses

Look for some EBC pads, braided lines also helps but the stopping power will always be somewhere towards "crap" no matter what. Some of us fit twinpots with CBR discs - see link to the big thread in my signature.

Assuming you have a 1980 or later GS1000G...
Grab a set of Carbon Lorraine pads and bed them in properly.
You'll be surprised what a set of 40 year old brakes can do.

If you have a '79 bike it might have the little round pads - they're just crap, no matter what you do.

79 XS650SE - Pragmatic Ratter - goes better than a manky old twin should.
      92 XJ900F - Fairly Stock, for now.
