Can anyone tell me if I can drop the front end of my 88 GSXR750 and put it on my 79 GS850.

Any thing is possible, I thing it would be too short, would require a custom tripple. Another problem is going to the modern rubber on the front Will not work with the bias ply rear

I have a Dunlop 404 on the rear right now. The GSXR has a Battalax on the front

I like riding on a matched set of tires. Others don't have an issue with certain combinations. I do not like the Dunlop 404 tires.
