fork dampers 1979 GS 1000
In the process of changing out a leaking fork seal, completely disassembled the right fork. At the top of the damper rod is a split ring (I believe it is the damper) that allows it to be fitted into the groove between the end of the rod and a flange about 1/4" - 1/2" from the top. I don't have any reason to think that the damper is worn, but how can I check this ? The forks cleaned up well, but the bike obviously sat outside for a while, because the snap ring and large washer were rusty, and you could tell there was water in the oil.1979 GS 1000Tags: None
