Rim width/ max tire
What is the widest rear tire I can sensibly use on a 17"X 4.5" rim without changing its profile? Swingarm clearance is not an issue.Tags: None -

The Michelin Pilot Powers in a 170 say they will go on a 4.5" rim as will some others but I think the preferred is 5".
160 is the normal size for a 4.5" rim.
I have a 170 running on a 5.5" rim with no problems (clearance is an issue so I can't get to a 180)1980 GS1000G - Sold

^yep.
Only 17X4.5" wheels in 1994, that I know of, were Bandit 400 and I think GSXR400...from suzuki anyway.Comment

OK, I was going by what the Seller said. Whatever it is it is a Suzuki 17" x 4.5 wheel. Cast aluminum 3-spoke Chrome rim edge and white paint. 5-bolt rotor and sprocket.
Thanks to all who replied. I continue to stand in awe of the knowledge this group displaysComment

That's more than likely and '88 or '89 wheel. The date of manufacture is cast into the wheel. The month and year are somewhere on the wheel.Comment
