    Fork rebuild

Just started tearing down my forks last night for my rebuild. Sonic springs arrive today, I feel like a kid before Christmas!

I was quite shocked when I drained my forks to see what came out: gray, thick, nasty fork oil. And not much of it! I didn't actually measure the volume but I'd be surprised if it was much over a cup of the stuff. Is this typical? I'm guessing I am the first to change the oil.

I pulled the springs out and will remove the damper tonight (bolts willing) but was wondering if I should flush the forks with kerosene or something before adding fresh oil? The forks are currently draining upside down...

I recommend flushing with ATF. It will be compatible with your fork oil, unlike kerosene, and some will (unfortunately) remain no matter how much you try to drain it out.
And congrats. Even after a few seasons the fork oil is nasty, no telling if yours was ever changed.
