Beautiful bike. A fine example of what attracted many of us to riding in the first place. Simple lines, clean style

...it looks like it might be running a little on the lean side based on the colour of that exhaust pipe.

'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

After reading through i figured that also. When i pulled the airbox the clamps were loose and the rubber rings inside the tubes were all messed up. The carbs are coming back off for a dip, new o rings and a jet kit and pods, and synch.

Something i noticed today, and i know this is the wrong forum, is an oil leak from the left front barrel/case gasket. Not a super lot. I have heard from some old honda guys of a product called newseal, whats the concensus on that?

All in all i too am prepered to do the work to put the pods on instead.
Or you could be the first to write the how to on airbox removal/installation

Oh, and Dan, regarding the original brake upgrade query I reckon it's worthwhile getting those measurements for you, so hopefully tomorrow I can remember to get them done.

Having a bugger of a week so far and haven't managed to get in the garage at all...

Bugger! Twice now I've been in the garage and forgotten to get those measurements... I will do it next time I'm in there... providing I don't forget again

                      Measured at last!

First, I couldn't really measure disc outside diameter so I took this off a replacement disc's spec: 276mm.

So the measurements I took, and these are all on the left fork leg:

Axle centre to lower calliper bolt centre: 75mm

Calliper bolts centre to centre: 72mm

Outside of disc including the bracket that sits on top of it to inner side of fork: 35mm

Edge of wheel to inner side of fork: 41mm

Note my completely inaccurate measuring device (steel ruler) as I don't have vernier callipers at the moment unfortunately, so all these measurements may not be 100% accurate, but I'm guessing they should still indicate if your existing brackets will fit.

Cool, will definitely be interesting to see if us 450 guys have an easy upgrade option too

Cool well done! Wish we didn't have to disassemble half the bike to do it, but it's a tight squeeze as it is...

That is most helpfull! No dang wonder my airbox has a hole in it, I bet the PO didn't remove anything to take it out. Now I know. Guess I will keep the old airbox around. Better make sure it seals up I guess. Thanks much for the video!
