Can't compress rear brake piston

Hi Everyone,

I am replacing the pads on my rear brakes, they were stuck in their real good. I finally got them out and got to pushing the piston back into the brake body, but they wouldn't go in by hand. Before I could stop him my buddy pressed the rear brake lever down a bit

It doesn't look like the piston is entirely out of the brake body but I have no idea if it was pushed out too far, I still have maybe a quarter inch between the piston and the brake disk.

At this point I used a wooden wedge to try to push the piston back in but no go. Is their a way to tell if the piston is too far out or if my problem is something like the return hole/port thing in the master cylender is blocked? If that is it, where is that and what is the best way to unblock it?

The best thing to do is to take the caliper to bits and give it a bloody good clean. Chances are alien beings have made a nest behind the pistons.......(you'll see what I mean if you pull the thing to bits).

Should I pick up a rebuild kit now or wait and see how it looks?

When you buy the rebuild kit buy OEM, the aftermarket kits are not up to much IMO.

Get a rebuild kit now so you know everything is done right; especially since your life is riding on those brakes. While you are at it, do the fronts and both master cylinders as well as the brake lines.
